vates Cassandra: the diviner Cassandra. Cassandra was the prophetic daughter of Priam and Hecuba, rulers of Troy, who foretold the destruction of Troy but was not believed. She was taken captive by Agamemnon (a Greek leader) after the downfall of Troy and was later killed by his wife, Clytemnestra.
