Our current research involves the synthesis and spectroscopic
study of novel organic dyes. The shifts in the absorption maxima under
varying conditions will allow the intermolecular interactions between the
chromophores to be better understood. By incorporating some of these unique
dye chromophores directly into the core of liquid crystal compounds, we
will have a method to study the relationship between their structure and
observed properties.
