A universal favorite, right up there with the Pachelbel Canon.
This musical miracle is still one of my all-time favorites. Mendelssohn wrote it at the age of sixteen. A group of summer school students played the first movement for us during the summer of 1993.
Members of my summer school class played the first movement for my class during the summer of 1995. The string players were Carolyn Shih, violin, Maia Rutman, violin, Ellen Lee, viola, and Grace Lin (Ellen's roommate), cello. They were joined by Professor William Lipscomb, Department of Chemistry, Harvard University, who played the clarinet part.
