CSC-131 Computer Practices and Perspectives

Class Sylabus (1st block 2005)
Annotated Bibliography Assignment
Week 1
In the first week of class we would have a lab in the mourning where we began working on our personal web sights and participated in writers workshop activities with a Cornell College writing consultant from our writing studio. In the afternoon lab we would meet for a hour and a half discussion where we would discuss issues from our text and receive a homework assignment for the day. Our homework assignments usually consist of around 25 pages of reading from A Gift of Fire and 15 practice questions at the end of a chapter. Also, this week the whole class participated in a debate on some privacy issues. My topic was the use of voter registrations as checks on party members debating laws such as marijuana. After the debate we were given a short writing assignment due the next day on our topic. Along with the debate topic paper we were given a question from our text to write a half page about and turn in along with our debate topic. On friday we were given our first 3 page writing assignment on a privacy issue that was due the following friday.
Week 2
The second week of class began with our first essay exam over chapters 1 through 3, which was fun, and a writing workshop on paragraph structure to aid us in the writing of our position papers. We also completed a database lab where I created a database of part of my CD colection. We had our first big writing assignment due on friday to end the week.
Week 3
The 3rd week also started with our second essay exam over chapters 4-6. Our paper topics were due on wednesday by e-mail and the rest of the assignments for the class were mapped out including our power point, our final paper, our final test, and our requirements for this web page. Friday mourning our library reference presentations were presented. \
Week 4
The final week of class is a busy one. On Monday and Tuesday our powerpoint presentations are due, all while working on our final paper and studying for our final. Wednesday mourning we will take our final, turn in our 1200 word paper, and be done with the class and off for block break.
